If you want me to come to the point directly – Vivo Y69 – Worthless Investment – Don’t Buy.
I’m going to try and explain in detail the reason for the above line.
The Vivo Y69 costs Rs 14,000 which is equipped with a 5.5″ screen powered by a 1.5 Gz Octacore processor with a 3000 mAH battery.
It runs on Android 7.0 skinned under the FunTouch OS 3.2. It supports dual sim cards and comes with a useless dedicated memory slot.
Here’s why I say its a worthless phone to buy:
Small Battery – 3000 mAH
I switched my from a Lenovo P2 which had a 5200 mAh which would last for around 2 – 3 days with one single charge. A 3000 mAH battery doesn’t even last for a day and generally no phone manufacturer includes that low a battery.
No Fast Charging
A phone of this stature and price is expected to have fast charging, specially considering a small battery. It takes about 1.5 hours to charge the battery completely. So its like a 1.5 hours of charge for 10 hours usage.
No use of memory card
Vivo Y69 offers a dedicated memory slot for expanding the storage which is basically pointless. You can’t move your apps to the SD Card. I think it is a problem with the FunTouch OS (the default OS that ships with VIVO). You can’t set the memory card as a default storage for installing apps. All you can do with the memory card is just transfer your photos and videos there and that too manually.
Auto Reset of Default Launcher
If you are an avid android user, you just can’t do away with the default android menu which is not available in Vivo launcher. The way out is to download and install the Google Launcher app which gives you a home like android feeling. So every time you touch the home button, it will ask you which launcher to launch, once you choose Google Launcher and set it as default, the setting gets rewritten and you will be back to the default Vivo launcher in a couple of days.
Less Intuitive and User Unfriendly Keyboard
The default Vivo keyword is nothing great. Its heavy on resources and the auto-correct is very invasive. The screen size, added to it makes it a difficult phone to type.
No Android 8 update
Despite of having a 8 core processor and 3GB ram, there is no plan to roll out the latest Android 8 for the device. This makes the phone a little less secure and not up-to date with a lot of technical enhancements.
No dual camera
Since Vivo is known for its camera, the downside of this phone is that there is no rear dual camera which is primarily used for professional portrait modes. Also, the moonlight selfie feature in the front camera just fills up white noise in a low light situation.
Bottom Slot for Headphones
The connection for your headphones is at the bottom of the phone. This becomes an issue when you are using headphones while keeping the phone in your pocket. This position is a little awkward as it bends the connector of the headphones hence causing it to tangle the internal wiring.
Now that I’m done with the downsides, I should also mention the upsides of the phone.
Good Camera
The Vivo Y69 has a good camera. Though it lacks the second lens for a portrait blur effect, it still has a good lens. The detailing of the images is good and the images are a little saturated.
Good Sound Quality
Sound quality of music is very good when it comes to streaming music online or playing it locally. The speaker is also nice and pretty loud.
Good Call Quality
Call quality is very good, crisp and clear.
